The half-painted seat design was inspired by the Windsor Style Chair that appeared in England during the era of the 1700s. The chair is made of polished wood and dipped three quarters of the way into a glossy white paint. The original design for the chair was prevalent during the 1950s. Folklore got a hold of the modernist design and restored the chairs so that they would sparkle like new, and since then the seats are a highly coveted piece of furniture.
