The Car Park Tower by Mozhao Studio Wins Hong Kong Design Competition

Architectural Competition Concours d’ Architecture (AC-CA) recently held a design competition for the design of a car park tower in Hong Kong. The winner of the competition was Mozhao Studio, whose design is a spiraling skyscraper that also functions as a public space for consumers.

One of the issues of typical car parks in any city is the high rate of vacancy on weekends and holidays. Mozhao Studio's Car Park Tower attempts to combat this issue with a top floor that overlooks Victoria Harbor and Hong Kong's Kowloon area, and which offers the public a cafe and public area that can be accessed at anytime. The bottom floor can also be transformed into a temporary market on non-work days to encourage more consumer traffic.

As for the car park tower design, it features an automated parking mechanism in which a spiral car lift takes vehicles from the ground level up to the 80-meter-high outdoor parking area.
