Upside-Down Task Lamps

Angled by Louis Rensch is Inspired by George Carwardine Iconic Design

The desk lamp dubbed Angled by Louis Rensch turns George Carwardine's iconic Anglepoise light on its head, quite literally. Modeled almost identically after the influential design, it is flipped upside down for a quirky interpretation that is both clever and contemporary. What is traditionally considered the lampshade has been turned into a stand, while the stand has become the actual light, outfitted with LEDs and everything.

Angled by Louis Rensch shows how LEDs can conform to flat shapes, unlike the now defunct incandescent light bulb. It is a beautiful tribute to a classic design, which was conceived 80 years ago, while celebrating the future of lighting as well. Rensch is currently studying industrial design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart.
