This open air library in Magdeburg, Germany was finally completed after a temporary installation was erected from beer crates. KARO Architects designed the open air library to be a functioning public area existing for all hours of the day. There is not registration and community members can come whenever they want to borrow a book.
KARO re-used a modernist facade that belonged to an old warehouse building (which was torn down in 2007) giving the design for the open air library an eco-friendly twist. The library boasts a collection of 20,000 books and is part of a community effort to revive the area in East Germany.
