Political Enemy Bonding

Pastor Rick Warren to Deliver Obama's Inauguration

Barack Obama’s decision to have his invocation opened with a prayer by Rick Warren has been a major controversy which has ruffled many liberal feathers. Pastor Rick Warren is, for the most part, incredibly conservative in his views, so many feel he isn’t the right fit to play national pastor.

“By some measures - such as his support for Proposition 8, which passed in November and blocked gay marriage in his native California - Warren is a figure of the religious right,” the Boston Globe said. “But he has a more moderate tone than many evangelicals, and has emphasized some liberal concerns, such as the dangers of global warming, along with his conservative social message.”

It’s a trademark of Obama to invite his “political enemies” to share a stage with him (giving Hillary Clinton the biggest job in his cabinet, and now Pastor Rick Warren opening at inauguration), shows his commitment to this tactic.
