Acoustic Diner Decor

The Minimalist Interior of the Black Hogg Eatery Eliminates Ambient Sounds

The challenge facing designer Brendan Ravenhill at the Black Hogg diner in Silver Lake is the goal to create a minimalist interior design that somehow combats the convoluted sound effects of the space.

He pulled the entire room together with two-inch white oak plywood strips that coat the walls and counters, hiding a layer of acoustic foam that serves to muffle the ambient noises that generally bounce around the diner when it gets busy. He then created the Hood Light fixtures specifically for this project, with their bent shades of polystyrene and LED light strips that illuminate the room with a soft white light.

Staying with the minimalist interior design, the chairs are upholstered in basic black.
