Abandoned House-Made Desks

The HIVE Modular Workstation is Made from Salvaged Materials

The HIVE Modular Workstation is an admirable desk system utilizing materials from abandoned homes. Aside from the eco-friendly benefits this fact yields, this project is admirable for another good reason. It was created to fill a need at the school the designer was attending at the time.

Conceived by Dan Cuffaro from the Cleveland Institute of Art, the HIVE Modular Workstation was built with the help of companies A Piece of Cleveland and Benchmark Craftsmen. Each desk has a honeycomb design that inspired its name. With peak-a-boo partitions, it allows workers to communicate with fellow peers when need be and to hole up when privacy is crucial. They are also fixed to wheels to be moved around easily.

The HIVE Modular Workstation has generated commercial buzz, prompting Cuffaro to found Abeo Design.
