Solar Fan-Like Lighting

The Light Bird by Jang Eun Hyuk Opens and Closes Like a Fluttering Wing

Aside from the classic solar lights that are used in gardens and along walkways, these illuminators can be quite ugly; the Light Bird wants to change that. As its name suggests, it is inspired by the wing of a bird. Opening up almost like a butterfly knife, the Light Bird displays its eco-friendly 'feathers,' which happen to be long, thin panels that soak up the sun's rays to power the light.

Designed by South Korean industrial designer Jang Eun Hyuk, the Light Bird was created for her graduation project. Mounted on walls, the Light Bird provides a soft glow outdoors for those moments when all a person wants is some light. Opened during the day and folded at night, the Light Bird is controlled by a rubber button in the center of the light.
