Andre De Freitas is an artist whom I truly admire as he regularly produces some of the most fun and visually stunning illustrations I’ve seen from current illustrators in the industry. Seen here are a handful of portraits depicting beloved comic book characters as they stare at viewers in a stoic manner. It’s almost as though the likes of Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Storm, Hellboy and Dr. Doom are getting their mugshots taken at a police station, but it isn’t just their lackluster expressions that gravitate me towards the series.
As usual, Andre De Freitas delivers with his patented pseudo-realist style that amalgamates itself with the best aspects of dynamic comic rendering. The awesome lighting of his pictures also gives off a controlled photoshoot vibe, making the superheroes appear like supermodels.
