Outdoor Library Installations

The Bookyard by Massimo Bartolini is Part of the TRACK Art Festival

While an outdoor library may seem like a nice idea, it is also a very impractical one; nevertheless, the art installation titled the Bookyard by Massimo Bartolini ignores the latter in order to indulge the former. It is made up of 12 green-painted stacks filled with books and lining St Peter's abbey vineyard in Ghent. The Italian artist created it for the 2012 Belgian art festival TRACK: A Contemporary City Conversation.

The books used in the Bookyard by Massimo Bartolini are for sale. They were collected from the public libraries of Ghent and Antwerp. The profit from these books will benefit the institutions that donated them. Visitors who want to walk away with a souvenir after perusing the stacks simply need to leave a donation in the boxes provided by the participating libraries.
