Pedestrians walking through London's St. John's Square will be presented with eye-catching trees entitled Solar Tree by Ross Lovegrove.
They're not real and is designed to be falsified city trees that act as street lights. It was completed for Clerkenwell Design Week 2012 and it's the first installation in the UK. The sculpture is equipped with LED lights and is made with 20 faux stems and six petals, which are the solar panels.
The Solar Tree can be lit up to three days when needed and automatically switches to chromatic LED lights during night. This tree doesn't give the air with any carbon dioxide but it does create its own energy while providing an aesthetically pleasing appeal. Solar Tree by Ross Lovegrove will be available to view throughout the Olympic games and will be taken down after September.
