Electricity Shortage Solutions

The Little Sun Solar Lamp Provides Light to Third World Countries

The Little Sun Solar Lamp is a collaborative effort between artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen, designed to bring light to people in developing countries who have little to no access to reliable electricity.

Shaped like a flower, the little lamp uses LED technology and a 2.4 x 2.4 inch solar panel to illuminate a room. The lighting solution offers for versatile arrangements and can be hung, placed on a table or carried around while on the move. This could be a viable solution for the more than 1.6 billion people who cannot attain energy sources to light their homes using tradition grid electricity found in the developed world.

There has been a growing movement devoted toward increasing the prominence of solar-powered objects and the creators of the light fixture believe that distributing solar energy could light up the lives of those in need.
