Snowshoe-Patterned Art

Simon Beck Creates Geometric Shapes on Powerful Landscapes

Artist Simon Beck uses a unique canvas for his masterpieces. The blank slates of snow-covered landscapes are artistically patterned by his snowshoe footprints. Unlike Sonja Hinrichsen, who has similarly created swirling indents in the snow, Simon Beck makes his artworks on his own without the help of volunteers.

Spending days along the frozen lakes of Savoie, France, Simon Beck's sprawling artwork is typically the size of three soccer fields. Taking on stunning geometric shapes, the artist began creating them for a workout. He says, "The main reason for making them was because I can no longer run properly due to problems with my feet, so plodding about on level snow is the least painful way of getting exercise."

Simon Beck is based in London, England.
