The Music Project involves the creation of carpets based on musical algorithms. These harmonious designs hope to embody a universal appeal, fostering an environment in which everyone can work comfortably in, aesthetically speaking, of course.
Commissioned by Shaw Contract Group Design Studio and designed by Todd Bracher, the former head of Tom Dixon's London studio, The Music Project is the first time he has ever designed carpets. Working with Rui Pereira from Portugal and Lucas Werthein from Brazil, both grads of NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program, they developed a software program produces a graphic based on imported music tracks.
Visualizing the expressions of sound, design and science, The Music Project is made up of four musical genres: classical, ambient, jazz and electronic as well as one pattern that symbolizes silence.
