Leung Ka Yin Draws Fantastical Water Based Art

Leung Ka Yin is an artist in Hong Kong with a penchant for creating artwork that is true to her homeland, typically water-based, and contains a strong amount of fantastical influences without ever allowing her art to become full-scale surrealism.

Leung Ka Yin graduated with a BFA from at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000, and completed her MFA at the same school in 2007. Her art blends elements of traditional Chinese illustration and pop culture, while drawing stories that depict her personal feelings and fantasies about Chinese life.

Looking through her portfolio, it's hard to not be impressed by the detail, technique, and versatility of the work. My favorite image from Leung Ka Yin's collection features two young girls swimming while playing with (and riding) two ducks. The illustration shows an innocent connection to nature that is often indigenous to children, and Leung Ka Yin does a great job of capturing one of life's simple beauties.

Leung Ka Yin is coming off the closing of a very successful show at the Hong Kong Museum of Art entitled 'Legacy and Creations - "Ink Art vs Ink Art,' which ended its run on July 17th, 2011.
