Sand Snake Robots

Researches at Georgia Institute of Technology created a robot for disasters

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology have created a robot that may just be the future of rescue technology for earthquakes.

This slithering, snake-like robot takes its inspiration from the Sandfish lizard that is able to crawl and navigate through the sand and light ground terrain at ease. The robot features a small motor housed in a latex swimsuit that powers it through the sand-like material. What makes the robot unique and practical is its wedged head that allows it to be precise and agile.

Georgia Institute of Technology developed this robot with hopes that it will be able to rescue victims trapped in debris after earthquakes. The team thinks it will definitely be a possibility in years to come.
