Spoken Word Poetry

Rhymes Without Music Regain Popularity

Spoken word poetry performances are coming back! The poetry of John Cooper Clarke is used to pacify an assembly of punk rockers in the late seventies in the heart of the Manchester music scene in the movie Control, while the rock band Joy Division waits nervously backstage. It's an awesome scene and very inspirational!

It's brilliant actually; John Cooper Clarke's poem 'Evidently Chickentown' is absolutely amazing and I do believe this scene will set a trend for more spoken word poetry in pubs and cafes in North American cities. The movie Control is powerful stuff too. The movie is about the life of Ian Curtis, the suicidal lead singer of Joy Division - who knew he had epilepsy? Watch this movie and polish up your poems.
