National Profanity Maps

Daniel Huffman Charts Out Swear Words

Cartographer Daniel Huffman set out to measure which of 48 contiguous states of America were more profane. Using a sample of 1.5 million geo-coded tweets, the propensity of six swear words is displayed by geographic location. According to the color-coded chart, which was adjusted to make for population density differences, the lighter red areas curse more than the darker locations.

'Profane Mountains, Polite Plains' is the amusing subtitle on this map by Daniel Huffman.

Implications - *Watch pro-tone. Not all consumers have always been interested in profanities.

Consumers have always been fascinated by the use of profanities, perhaps this is due to the fact that it is generally considered taboo to say them outloud. Any art, design, or product that uses these profane words shows this change in product demands and the fact that in the future consumers will demand that there art represent free speech.
