Alfalfa Popsicles

Bizarre Mexican Treats

We've featured some strange food items on Trend Hunter before, and while it's not fair to judge a food choice "gross" or "weird", we choose to deem them unique and intriguing. Poppies Popsicles were launched by sisters Sarah and Sophia Green who were inspired by childhood summers in Mexico. Their icy desserts combine unique flavors including alfalfa sprouts, chili, cucumber and hibiscus flowers, and are available exclusively at select farmer's markets in LA.

They're "100% natural using as many local, organic ingredients as possible. No preservatives, food coloring or artificial flavors are added."

The three most intriguing flavors?

Alfalfa
"The 'Father of all Foods' is a green super-food rich in vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll used to treat everything from fatigue to nausea. We combine alfalfa with freshly-squeezed lime-juice and a hint of sugar to create an exciting tangy new flavor. They're truly addictive!"

Pico de Gallo
"This delicately spiced treat is made with freshly squeezed California oranges, pieces of cucumbers and jicama and lightly sprinkled with chile de arbol powder. This vitamin-c rich super-combination of anti-oxidants s great for boosting your immune system while not worrying about your waistline."

Hibiscus
"One of our most popular flavors, Poppies mixes organic sun-dried hibiscus flowers with natural spring water to create a unique and healthy treat that is caffeine-free and high in vitamin C. We guarantee you've never tasted anything as unique and satisfying as our Hibiscus Heaven Poppies!"
