Fake Sushi Fraud

Cheap Substitutes Passed Off As Red Snapper

The FDA is investigating Chicago-area restaurants claiming to be serving red snapper sushi, when in reality they're serving cheap, imitation substitutes. Suspicions were raised and DNA test have confirmed that fake sushi was indeed being served in at least fourteen restaurants across the city. The practice of swapping out real red snapper for fake is likely at the distributor level, rather than by the restaurants themselves. In any case, this is considered to be fraud by the FDA and the investigation continues.
