Lifelike Robot Children

Repliee R-1

Three years ago, Repliee Q-1, a 'female' robot was unveiled in Japan. Now Repliee Q-1 has a child, named Repliee R-1.

She is a very life-like, robotic five-year-old based on a line of Actroids. The design for Repliee R-1 is based on that of a live child.

The scientists at Osaka University have been making robots for a number of years and they are getting increasingly realistic.

This latest child robot has silicone skin, which actually gives her much in common with today's Hollywood starlets.
