A very interesting look into the honest, functional, and trend changing design of Apple and where it’s design aesthetic comes from. While most people credit Apple’s Jonathon Ive with leading this revolution of design, this article points to the influences of vintage Braun products and most notably product designer Dieter Rams’ work.
From philosophy to execution these two designers are spot-on similar. Is this homage or plagiarism? My opinion is good design is recycled. I know you’ve heard it a million times but in an age where no idea is new, a tastefully executed design in the vain of a timeless design deserves it’s own recognition. At the same time we need to recognize where the inspiration comes from and not forget to give it the dues it is owed.
