Landscape Self Portraits

Art by Levi van Veluw

Dutch artist Levi van Veluw’s self portraits are not photoshop enhanced pictures. His artform involves what he calls “material transfers” whereby he adds all kinds of things on himself. His landscape collection shows him reinterpreting “the traditional landscape painting, removing plots of grass, clusters of trees, babbling brooks from their intimate 2 dimensional formats and transposing them onto the 3 dimensional contours of his own face.” The video on his website shows his most elaborate work complete with a moving miniature train going round and round his head!

The other works in this series includes his take on an agricultural landscape complete with a little tractor and some farm animals. The one which looks like fall has little vehicles incorporated. The winter landscape features little lampposts!
