Healthy Super Chocolate

Xocai

Xocai chocolate offers guilt free indulgence. "The name Xoçai™ consists of the first two letters of the Aztec word, 'Xocolatl,' an ancient, Central-American, chocolate drink, and the last three letters of 'Açaí,' a berry found in the Amazon Rain Forest," explains Chocolateforhealth.ca. The dark chocolate products are packed with at least 70% cocoa by content and acai berries harvested from co-op farms growing a type of Amazon palm tree.

Both ingredients are rich in antioxidants which may have health benefits because they protect against free radicals produced when the body breaks down food or is environmentally exposed to harmful substances like cigarette smoke and radiation. Antioxidants could play a role in preventing some human diseases like certain cancers. That is why some types of vegetables and many fruits are good for you because they are rich in antioxidants. The acai berries are also rich in omega fatty acids - the "good fats". Exactly how much Xocai chocolate one has to consume to get any beneficial effect and yet not put on weight with all those calories is uncertain. But for dark chocolate lovers, this is one decadent treat you could rationalise. Easily.

The range of Belgian chocolate based products include nuggets (with blueberries as well), chocolate drinks and the Omega bar. The chocolate is cold-pressed by their patented method. The product is also touted as vegetarian because there are no dairy products. So milk chocolate lovers are out of luck. They offer bulk prices for chocoholics and wholesale price for interested distributors at $140 and $110 Canadian per box.
