Stone Age Modernism

Glass Knives by Noa Bembibre

Hardcore, New Finnish Design is presenting Noa Bembibre and her Glass Knives collection during New York Design Week 2008.

“Bembibre's glass knives combine the very ancient roots of design – transforming rocks into tools – with innovative contemporary kitchenware design,” HardcoreDesign says. Noa combines the “raw qualities of the Stone Age tools with the glossy, transparent and polished surface of glass.”

Perhaps her inspiration came from ancient Scandinavian arrowheads used in the Viking age. I love the association of her modern glass kitchen knife designs to primeval hunting tools.
