Computer-Generated Art

Margret Eicher's Gobelins Tapestry

This week, Trend Hunter featured computer generated novels, and now we have computer generated art.

In this example, Margret Eicher has revamped the art of Gobelins Tapestry which has been traditionally hand-embroidered and sewed by skilled craftsmen/craftswomen. Using religion and pop culture iconography as sources of inspirations, Eicher's tapestries, however, are refined industrial products created by a computer. When this tradition started hundreds of years ago, Gobelins tapestry craftmen/craftwomen used religious art and famous paintings as sources for inspiration. This is beautiful stuff.
