Camera With Built In Geotagging

GE E1050

Anyone who has ever tried to dig into old vacation photos on their computer hard drive and wondered "Now where was that?" will be able to benefit from GE's new E1050 camera with built-in geotagging.

Scheduled to ship in September, the E1050 will include a GPS receiver to add location data to each photo. Although a computer will be required to read the location data on this first model, hopefully future models will be more sophisticated.

According to Steve Haber, senior vice president of Sony Electronics' digital imaging and audio division, "We keep hearing, 'My PC is this black hole for my photos'...People (need) as much metadata on their pictures as possible--date, location, event--which allows for easier search and for eliminating the black hole."
