They are wood earbuds, and they are real. JVC, a leader in audio, has made these designer buds from birch wood. Real wood is used in cases for large speakers, so why not small ones too? But JVC says the HP-FX500 buds use a special driver and gel to reduce jittering.

They'll begin selling in Japan in February and are expected to make the leap to North America quickly.
