Moderate Drinking is Good for Your Health

Harvard Study

Eric Rimm, Sc.D., associate professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, says, "The healthiest people include moderate drinking in their lifestyle. You can reap alcohol's health benefits within weeks, and the gains accumulate over time. Stick to one drink a day, and fewer than seven a week."

A drink is equivalent to 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1½ ounces of 80-proof liquor, and the limit is one-a-day.

Moderate consumption (one drink a day) of alcohol can raise HDL (“good”) cholesterol; help regulate insulin (blood sugar) levels, lowering your risk for type 2 diabetes; and protect against rheumatoid arthritis. Additionally, women who drink moderately enjoy better overall health than women who never drink at all.

Cheers!
