Architectural Fantasy Exhibits

NL Architects at Venice Biennale

Dutch Architects, NL will be exhibiting their vision of virtual architecture at the 11th International Architecture Exhibition (Venice Biennale) “Out There: Architecture Beyond Building” in the Italian Pavilion.

True to the theme, they have many images of architectural fantasies which reflect on today’s realities. Often we under use product capacities so a highway that resembles a roller coaster which will require vehicular speeds exceeding 200 km/h. The picture of towers represents the unused office space in the major capitals of Europe - 18 square km or the equivalent of 50 twin towers.

With crowded sky ways, perhaps planes should fly more efficiently, like birds in a vee-formation? What about the plastic trash piling up in the oceans as garbage icebergs (trashbergs)? The Dutch call wind turbines “pollution of the horizon” so they could be designed with a more aesthetic feel? Wind turbines that resemble flowers?

Their “Google Forest” showing a satellite view of a coastline brings attention to the rising oceans and loss of land.

Last but not least, the architects wonder if the reverse could happen where cities are transported onto cruise ships.

Virtual Architecture
The use of virtual reality technology in architectural design and exhibitions opens up opportunities for immersive experiences and enhanced visualization.
Disruptive Transportation Design
Exploring innovative transportation designs, such as roller coaster-inspired highways or bird-like airplane formations, can revolutionize the way we travel and address issues like traffic congestion and fuel efficiency.
Sustainable Urban Planning
Creating aesthetically pleasing wind turbines or designing cities that can be transported onto cruise ships showcases the potential for integrating sustainability into architectural and urban planning practices.

Industries Being Reshaped

Architecture
Architects can leverage virtual reality technology to create more interactive and immersive design experiences for clients, enhancing their understanding and decision-making process.
Transportation
The transportation industry can explore disruptive design concepts to optimize efficiency, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.
Renewable Energy
Innovative wind turbine designs that blend aesthetics with functionality can help address concerns about visual pollution, promoting the adoption of renewable energy sources.
