Flora Inspired Eco Architecture

The Leaf House

The natural organic trend continues to emerge and is infiltrating all manners of living, in this case, an entire house.

The Leaf House, located on a beach in Rio De Janiero, Brazil, is comprised of a roof which appears to be a big, shady leaf that shields the enclosed spaces of the house from the sun, while allowing trade winds to pass through the open structure. This construction provides natural venting, at the same time offering passive cooling.

The design of architects Mareines +Patalano has sought to enhance the relationship of man and nature to work in harmony, while creating a home with no corridors, and making the in and outdoors seem as one.

Rain water is reused and recycled, and much of the home is built using indigenous materials.

Truly an eco wonder.
