Gaudi-Inspired Seating

Bram Geenen Takes Cues From Art Nouveau for Stool & Chair

Gaudi inspired Dutch designer Bram Geenen, an alum of the industrial design faculty of Eindhoven Technical University for this seating design.

Bram Geenen named it the Gaudi Stool, but I do believe that is a misnomer: Gaudi’s style is much more Art Nouveau-inspired than this stool.

By making a model of hanging chains, gravity determined for Gaudi the strongest and most logical shapes. Then he put the outcome upside down to create his structures. This process inspired Bram Geenen.

The photos of the substructure of the stool shows a certain structural similarity with a cathedral. The chair is Bram Geenen’s second design. For the substructure he created a web of rapid prototyped polyamide which is covered by a very thin and light layer of carbon composite material.

Notwithstanding the name, I do believe this will become an iconic chair.
