Compost-Powered Lamps

Haneum Lee's Gaon Street Light Uses Trash for Energy

The next time you pass by a street lamp, take a second look. It may just be a Gaon Street Light, which is an eco-friendly light powered by food waste.

A concept design by Haneum Lee, the Gaon Street Light uses trash from pedestrians as its energy source. When someone throws garbage into its base, it will compost the garbage and then the methane created from the compost will be used to generate energy to power the lamp. The entire process starts again when more waste is added to the base.
