Lamp Melts During Use

Ikarus Wax Lamp

Like to change your light fixtures often for a new look? Here is a fixture that melts right before your very eyes over a months' time.

As the Ikarus Wax Lamp melts, it takes on all sorts of weird shapes; no two lamps will look alike. Like pouring hot lead into water, you can let your imagination run wild with what each piece represents.

The lamps shown at the IMM Cologne Show, are the creation of German designers Ayling Kayser and Christian Metzner.

They aren't in production yet because, well, there is this little matter of environmental issues and melting materials isn't exactly eco-friendly.
