Appleton Estate Has Unveiled the Source 51-Year-Old Expression

— July 15, 2025 — Lifestyle
Appleton Estate's The Source 51-Year-Old is positioned as a landmark release that establishes a new benchmark for aged rum — the expression stands as "the longest tropically aged rum ever released."

Distilled in 1973 from estate-grown sugarcane and matured in a single American oak cask at Jamaica’s Appleton Estate, this ultra-rare offering showcases the profound effects of tropical aging, where heat and humidity accelerate barrel interaction to intensify flavor and color development. Overseen by Master Blender Dr. Joy Spence, the first woman to hold such a title in the spirits industry, The Source embodies Appleton’s 275-year legacy — from traditional copper pot distillation to meticulous cask management that mitigated the high evaporation rates typical of Jamaica’s climate.

Named for the distillery’s limestone-filtered aquifer, the tropically aged rum is presented in an artisanal heart-shaped decanter featuring a copper Doctor Bird and housed in a turquoise case with cane-inspired marquetry. Only 25 decanters are available worldwide.
