Balenciaga has presented its Fall 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli and the capsule takes the High Renaissance artistic technique of clair-obscur as its guiding principle.
The clair-obscur approach explores the tension between darkness and light, treating these opposites not as conflicts but as mutually defining forces that reflect the human condition. Garments in the High Renaissance-inspired capsule use the body as an internal structure, with collars, hoods, and décolletages framing the face like a portrait, while cutouts reveal skin and certain shoes appear magically suspended with air visible between foot and sole.
Materials are chosen for their natural abilities to absorb or reflect light, including supple leather, dense cashmere, silk, and sequin embroideries, so that lustres can shift perceptions of color and shape.
