Build your own what? The Theremin is thought to be the first electronic musical instrument. It’s the etherial sound you hear throughout The Beach Boys’ song “Good Vibrations”. It’s the instrument that makes that creepy “ooo-eee-ooo” music in old-timey vampire films. Now you can build your own, and be the eeriest monster on the block this Halloween.

The Theremin has no strings, it has no keys or reeds. In fact, you don’t touch anything to play it. Radio waves between two antennae change pitch and volume according to where the players hands are placed. With a simple DIY kit from Harrison Instruments, you can throw one together yourself.
