How does a one-hit-wonder band from the 80’s make money when the royalties slow to zero? You sell a phone number made famous by the #1 hit: 867-5309.
The band Tommy Tutone destroyed the value of the phone number as a working phone line because the lines are getting 25 calls an hour - still. So the phone companies disconnected the lines for most area codes. The phone number can be registered on Vonage and the successful bidder on eBay can capture that call volume. I’m sure some adult entertainment company will jump on this. Will be fun to see if it’s the same company that owns 1-800-eat-sh*t.
