You might think that using natural building materials for housing is new and unique, but these photos illustrate how buildings have been constructed using basic earth and water to make mud structures that have lasted hundreds, even thousands, of years. How’s that for sustainability?

Using mud to make bricks reinforced with straw also provides a huge number of dwellings for the earth’s population.
