The A011 Vending Machine is an eco-friendly alternative to other drink dispenser. It manages to keep drinks cold without power. At least during the day it does. At night, when electricity is cheaper, it uses energy. Touted as a peak-shift vending machine, it can operate for up to 16 hours per day without power. By using vacuum insulated material and air-tight doors, the coolness generated overnight is maintained throughout the day.
Developed by Coca-Cola Japan in collaboration with Fuji Electric Retail Systems, the A011 Vending Machine was created in response to the Japan earthquake disaster last year, which left the country with a major shortage of electricity. This creation could spur similar ones in the near future.
