Aluminum Benches Dazzle at the Extraordinary Extrusions Exhibit

The design firm Heatherwick Studio has revealed a collection of aluminum benches titled ‘Extrusions’ for the 2009 London Design Festival.

The futuristic metal furnishings include six extruded, mirror-polished aluminum benches made without fixtures or fittings, but produced by the world’s largest extrusion machine. This machine squeezed and shaped the aluminum into “a chair profile, complete with legs, seat, and back,” says the Haunch of Venison gallery in London, and each piece took 300 hours to polish.
