Distorted Deathlike Sculptures

Seungchun Lim Explores Darkness with Daunting Human Clay Sculptures

Petrifying, beautiful and altogether thought-provoking, the sculptures of Seungchun Lim are an unconventional artistic form. They tell a story that is certainly subjective to interpretation, but play with the idea of the human form as complete. The distorted faces he has created are also evocative of sadness, exclusion and rejection, and explore human acceptance of those who fall outside the realms of the physical norm.

The Korean native's message is certainly true to our North American experiences of shallowness and the value we place in Western society on physical appearance. Lim's art is not limited to sculpting. He also experiments with painting, drawing and installation. I am certain each of his pieces is produced with equal levels of consciousness and thought.
