Bandaged Trunk Sculptures

The Series by Olsen Zander 'Tree, Line' Creates an Optical Effect

Simple but striking, the work by artist Olsen Zander called 'Tree, Line' feels like magic. The Welsh-born photographer managed to create a fantastic series employing trees, a white blanket and photography. This project works around concepts like reality vs. illusion to develop an interesting game with landscapes and horizons.

Zander traveled around the UK for about a decade to find forests where he could wrap trees in white fabric and form an optical effect. The illusion was created by the way he covered the trunks, which created an artificial white line that, when audiences look at the photographs, seem to divide the horizons. Therefore, this project questions what viewers perceive and what is real according to the camera's point of view.

Tree, Line by Olsen Zander is philosophical and beautiful.
