Workstations For Fashionable Nomads

"The First 4TB iPod" at Monolab

Workaholics can appreciate this mobile aluminium workstation designed like a modern Louis Vuitton trunk.

This "futuristic piece of luggage" started off as sort of a home away from home. Ismael Ghalimi came up with the design when he was "homeless" at one point because he gave up his apartment due to traveling so much for work. He originally wanted a trunk to keep some favourite belongings like books and CDs. When the first aluminium cased Apple PowerMac came along, he got the idea to integrate that into his aluminium trunk.

The drawers and hangers soon got dumped to make room for an Apple Mac Pro with a large LCD, amplifier and speakers. All the components are aluminium encased for consistency. The 5 foot trunk is a monstrous 300 lb on wheels. It is heavy because he used hydraulic dampeners for the two front doors like rear hatches in cars for smoother operation! He described his workstation as "The first 4TB iPod."

That prototype is now on display at Monolab Workspace Palo Alto, California.
