Cutaway Leaf Art
Lorenzo Duran Uses Natural Materials to Create Stunning Artworks

By: Meghan Young (Superstar) Jul 15, 11
{SummaryTitle}

Now that summer is in full swing, there are a lot more natural materials to create stunning art with; just take a look at Lorenzo Duran’s portfolio to see what I mean. Using beautiful green leaves as mini-organic canvases, he has created intricate scenes, patterns and objects by expertly cutting away pieces of them.

With a meticulous routine, Lorenzo Duran collects perfect leaves, judged by size and shape, and then proceeds to wash, dry and mold them. Once the base is set, he begins to cut at each leaf as gently as possibly so as not to rip or break it in the process. Lorenzo Duran uses an interesting technique based on paper-cutting in China, Japan, Germany and Switzerland.
