Colorfully Ambiguous Landscapes

Hutt Lagoon by Steve Back Captures a Micro Algae Production Plant

Hutt Lagoon by Steve Back, a phographer based in Bondi Beach, Australia, is a photo series that appears to revolve around geometric shapes and colorful construction paper. In reality, it features shots of the largest micro algae production plant in the world. Taken from an aircraft while flying over Hutt Lagoon in Kalbarri, Western Australia, the Aussie native managed to turn the fiery fields into works of art that will leave people scratching their heads in disbelief.

Completely un-doctored, the images in the photo series Hutt Lagoon by Steve Back are exactly what people would see if they had a bird's eye view of the plant. The seemingly unnatural hues, ranging from bright orange to hot pink, are the fortunate consequence of an organically produced beta carotene in the water, which is sourced as food coloring.
