Social bicycles bike sharing system is set to debut in NYC this fall. Using GPS, cell phone tech and some super secure locks, this may be the first system to really catch on, both for its quality and convenience, which bike sharing lacks.
You use the iPhone app to locate a bike that is close to you around the city, or at base stations (you don’t have to use them) and also use the app to unlock the bike. The bike sharing program tracks where the bikes are, and knows who you are through the cell phone tech. You can also “hold” the bike for ten minutes for quick errands so it isn’t taken.
