Dutch Reflective Stools

Anneke Von Bommel was Inspired by Her Family Roots

Wanting to incorporate her family history into her designs, designer Anneke von Bommel created the Delft Stools. These furniture pieces bring together her Dutch background with Canada's postwar agricultural immigration. Her grandparents and parents moved to Canada in the 1950s searching for a new life in the rural Canadian land, and this personal narrative inspired her to develop this project.

Thus, in order to reflect her story, she created stools using Canadian wood and decorated them with traditional Dutch Delft ceramic paintings. The artist explains, "It is this idea of migration, cross-cultural exchange, decorative interpretation and family history that provided the basis of this exploration and experiment." This beautiful project resulted in the production of mesmerizing pieces. The delicate cobalt paintings, combined with the wood, created a lovely contrast.

The ever-charming Delft Stools by Anneke von Bommel artistically represent the narrative of a family.
