China's First No Car Day

September 22 marks the first 'No Car Day' in China. The Chinese government has "urged" the people in 108 cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin, not to drive on that day. The day was initiated to raise "awareness on energy saving and environmental protection". Won't this throw the Earth off of it's axis and cause us to careen out of orbit?

Implications - Pollution is a huge problem in major cities, so people are shifting towards greener transportation. As the car industry continues to develop hybrid vehicles, consumers are choosing bikes as a cost-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative. It seems that bicycles represent much more than a hobby to today's eco-conscious consumer.
