Recycling Your Old Smoking Habits into Wearable Art

Clearly there is nothing that cannot be re-purposed or incorporated into a new and useful reincarnation. Given the fibrous composition of cigarette filters (butts), it makes sense that they would be an inspiration to Chilean designer, Alexandra Guerrero.

Guerrero’s line of wearable creations, is called Mantis. The clothing is, believe it or not, created from discarded old cigarette butts, which are actually retrieved from pubs, restaurants, and other public places. The butts are then dyed and incorporated into a natural fiber wool, which is then spun by hand into such items as coats, hats, gloves.

No word on whether the rather pungent odor remains!
